I applied to the programme with a project entitled ‘memory maps’ about Crimea, where I come from. In my practice, I create sound compositions, but at the same time I am developing a visual map of these places, which exist today only in memory. These are images that are both tangible and lost.

For me, experimenting with artistic identity is an attempt to step outside the confines of safe group structures in order to focus on strengthening my own practice. My exploration will be rooted in sensory experience and manual work.

I would like to search for strategies, tools and solutions that we have forgotten to bring into the theatre (or perhaps we have consciously removed them), to rediscover them, examine them and restore them, in one form or another, perhaps beyond recognition, but after all, inspiration and adaptation are also an integral part of the creative process.

As an independent researcher of contemporary spirituality, I often refer to the concept of ‘equality of knowledge’. I strive to treat esoteric and mystical knowledge on a par with scientific knowledge – for me, this is a prerequisite for researching these fields with due respect. During my residency – in the spirit of this year’s theme – I would like to reflect more deeply on what this equality means in practice.

The selection panel would like to thank all applicants for their submissions and for taking part in the interviews for the fourth edition of the WOK Residency, held under the theme experimentation. This has been an extremely valuable process for us. In the first stage of the selection process, we received 168 applications. After reviewing them, we invited 20 candidates to the second stage.

The selection panel of the Warsaw Observatory of Culture appointed by its Director Małgorzata Bakalarz-Duverger would like to thank all applicants for their submissions. As every year, the call for applications for the residency programme gave us a unique insight into Warsaw’s artistic and research community. We read many fascinating proposals for the residency programme, all brimming with potential. We received 168 applications for this year’s edition.

Щороку ми оголошуємо набір на Резиденції WOK! Це вже четверта творчо-дослідницька резиденція Warszawskiego Obserwatorium Kultury (далі WOK). Програма резиденції підтримує розвиток осіб і мистецьких колективів у поглибленні їхніх творчих або дослідницьких практик. Резиденції WOK дозволяють тестувати нові моделі співпраці, знімаючи виробниче навантаження з творчих осіб. Участь у програмі надає можливість поглянути на власну практику з різних перспектив.

This year’s theme is experimentation.

W grudniu 2025 roku zakończyliśmy trzecią edycję rezydencji WOK, realizowaną pod hasłem „Rezyliencja”. W jej ramach wspieraliśmy indywidualne procesy twórcze dziesięciu osób (dwie z nich uczestniczyły w rezydencji jako jeden kolektyw). Teraz oddajemy im głos.

In 2025, at the Warsaw Observatory of Culture we decided to explore the participation of children from Belarus and Ukraine with migration experience in the capital’s culture. Turning to the experiences and observations of young people is an important lens through which to view the rapidly emerging multi-ethnic society that Poland in general, and Warsaw in particular, has become.

Czym jest dziś praca artystyczna i jak jest postrzegana przez różnych interesariuszy miejskich: urzędy oraz instytucje kultury. Jaka jest jej charakterystyka? Z czego się składa? W jaki sposób zależy od materialnych uwarunkowań – ekonomicznych i przestrzennych? Na te pytania staramy się odpowiedzieć w publikacji Pracow(A)nie artystyczne.

Czym jest dziś praca artystyczna i jak jest postrzegana przez różnych interesariuszy miejskich: urzędy oraz instytucje kultury. Jaka jest jej charakterystyka? Z czego się składa? W jaki sposób zależy od materialnych uwarunkowań – ekonomicznych i przestrzennych?

Pojęcie „pokolenia” stało się jednym z popularnych narzędzi porządkowania zróżnicowanych tożsamości. Do zbioru pokoleniowych etykiet, między alfami i boomerami, millenialsami i zetkami, zapomnianymi już pokoleniami Kolumbów czy JPII, warto dodać kolejną grupę, tym razem wyróżnianą nie według lat urodzenia czy epoki historycznej lecz korzeni kulturowych. Drugim pokoleniem nazywa się osoby urodzone w kraju, do którego ich rodzice przybyli w wyniku imigracji.

WOK has developed a new research approach to systematically measure the cultural participation of its population.

The Warsaw Observatory of Culture (WOK) launched a research project dedicated to the situation of parents working in creative professions. We are witnessing a paradigm shift for mother/father/parent-artistic individuals—from the historical exclusion of combining a career in the arts with caregiving responsibilities to an increasingly common need to function in both realms and to fulfil the role of practising artist on an equal footing with the role of a parent.

The study of cultural education in Warsaw is a study of the city itself: its radically changing community; its shifts and uncertainties in the face of global challenges; as well as its local conditions and their impact on the lives of Warsaw’s residents. WOK presents the report Cultural Education in Research and Action, which concludes the second phase of our study on cultural education practices in Warsaw.
