REPORT: Children participate! A summary of research activities in 2025
Every tenth student in Warsaw’s educational institutions is foreign. This rapid growth in multi-ethnicity allows us to take a broader view of issues which have been developing for over a decade: the lack of a common frame of reference, cultures circulating alongside each other, and the need for counter-space among minority communities, i.e. safe spaces for the creation and expression of identity, among other things. This opens up a great opportunity for a conversation about intersectionality in Warsaw.
We examined the characteristics of cultural participation among the groups of young people from the perspective of many social actors: children, parents, representatives of diasporic and Polish cultural entities, and teachers. Our exploratory study was qualitative in nature.
Discover the key findings of our 2025 research conducted as part of the “Children participate!” project. The presentation includes such elements as the preliminary identification of needs and barriers to cultural participation among young people with migration experience, the diverse roles which culture can play in their lives, the impact of the multidimensional family context on children’s opportunities to engage in culture, and other factors influencing cultural accessibility for multi-ethnic audiences. The presentation also contains a summary of a Round Table discussion which took place at WOK Lab on 5 December 2025.
