Monika Borys
My academic interests revolve around visual culture and politics. I am preparing my PhD on the visuality of the working class in Poland after 1989. My written work can be found in academic journals, cultural magazines, and newspapers. I have written a book titled Polski bajer. Disco polo i lata 90 [Polish Swank. Disco Polo and the 1990s] in which I discuss the aesthetics of the transformation period, which may have been rejected by some but held immense appeal to the masses.
I am connected to the art field with various threads. I am a critic, a curator, an exhibition guide, and I support male and female artists with my skills. I have collaborated with such institutions as the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, the State Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Warsaw Biennale, the Museum of Warsaw, and the Nowy Teatr.
Originally from the Podlasie region, however, I have been living in Warsaw for over a decade. I feel most at ease on its vibrant right bank.
