Majid Jammoul
In 1975 I graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the field of sculpture under professors Tadeusz Łodziana, Oskar Hansen, and Zofia Demkowska. From 1975 to 1981 I was a lecturer in the Department of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Damascus University, and from 1981 to 1991 I was the director of the Fine Arts Centre in Damascus.
I have been awarded numerous prizes and awards in the field of sculpture, including First Prize for the design of the monumental relief Najha (1977), Second Prize for the design of the UnknownSoldier Monument in Damascus (1980), and First Prize for the design of the Monument to the Fallen in Jaramana (1986).
I have also participated in several individual and collective exhibitions, as well as international biennales and symposia. I realised outdoor sculptures in Turkey, Tunisia, Poland – Warsaw and Orońsko, France, China, Spain, and Iran. My works can be found in the collections of the StaatlicheKunstsammlungen in Dresden, the British Museum in London, the National Museum in Damascus, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Syria, the Centre for Polish Sculpture in Orońsko, the Museum of Warsaw, the Museum of Coins and Medals in Kremnica and in private collections.
