We would like to thank those who met with us during the second stage of recruitment, as well as all those who submitted their applications for the third edition of the Artist and Research Residency programme at WOK. The two-stage recruitment format we adopted was designed to get to know the authors of the selected applications better and to see if and how WOK could respond to their needs and ideas. We wanted these meetings not to be a test, but rather an opportunity for friendly conversation. In assessing the applications, we used the following criteria: interpretation of the proposed theme of “Resilience”, a non-project-based approach to the residency process, ability to work in a group and an informed assessment of their needs. In addition, our selection was guided by our desire to create a group that was diverse interms of the artistic and research practices of the residents, as well as their experience and approach to the residency process. We tried to evaluate all the applications carefully and sensitively, but we gave the highest scores to those who saw our programme as supporting the development process rather than as an opportunity to realise already completed artistic or research concepts. We also had to bear in mind the limitations of residencies and the fact that WOK cannot offer assistance beyond the competence of cultural managers. We have therefore selected people whose processes we can support in the most appropriate and effective way, given the format of the residency and the tools we have at our disposal.
We believe that the practice of providing feedback is important and helpful, therefore the other people we interviewed in the second stage will receive feedback from us by email.
