Guy Cools

I have worked as a dance critic and dance curator. From 1990 until 2002, I curated the dance programme of Arts Centre Vooruit in Ghent, Belgium as well as festivals and conferences in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Montréal, Tilburg and Venice. As a dramaturg, I worked with a. o. Koen Augustijnen (BE), Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (BE), Danièle Desnoyers (CAN), Alexander Gottfarb (AT), Lia Haraki (CYP), Akram Khan (UK) and Arno Schuitemaker (NL).
I have been mentoring the Biennale Dance College in Venice and the ATLAS program of ImPulsTanz Vienna. I taught at the University of Ottawa, the University of Ghent and the Fontys School of Fine And Performing Arts in Tilburg. I am currently full-time professor at the dance department of UQAM in Montréal.
My most recent publications include In-between Dance Cultures: on the migratory artistic identity of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Akram Khan (2015); Imaginative Bodies, dialogues in performance practices (2016); and Performing Mourning. Laments in Contemporary Art (2021).
