I am a PhD student researching safe cultural spaces for queer individuals with migration and/or refugee experiences in collaboration with the WOK. I am currently researching queer performances existing in the Polish club scene, focusing on ballroom and drag culture.

For years I have been affiliated with the Institute of Polish Culture at the University of Warsaw, where I graduated in Cultural Studies with a specialisation in visual culture. I also completed a degree in film studies at the Art Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. I am a member of the international collective MoDrag which creates exhibitions in cooperation with drag artists. In my free time I cuddle dogs, walk around Bielan or watch bad reality shows.

As part of the grant from the City of Warsaw, I am implementing the project “What can Warsaw’s ballroom culture teach Warsaw? Creating safe cultural spaces for new queer residents of Warsaw”. Ballroom culture is a lens for me to consider how the grassroots principles it produces can work in the institutionalised world of municipal entities. These principles relate to respecting diversity in its broadest sense, living in an ethic of caring for others, and linking to activist-educational activity.
