Observatory
of Culture

At the Warsaw Observatory of Culture we aim to explore the processes of contemporary culture and share our findings with the wider community. We believe that connecting art and artists with scholarship affords us a better understanding of the world and the tools to engage with and contribute to the future.

‘Nothing’ + presentation by Zbigniew Warpechowski

Zbigniew Warpechowski (b. 1938) is a pioneer of performance art in Poland and one of the first artists in the world to work in this field. On 27 March, the WOK Lab space hosted an event organised by Monopol Gallery in which the artist returned to the notion of ‘Nothing’, which has been a major theme in his work since 1972. The performer first gave a speech about ‘Nothing’ and then presented a ream of blank paper, turning, crumpling and tearing the pages one by one. A blank page became a means of expressing ‘Nothing’.
